Billy and Millie

June 23rd, 2010

These two Siamese tabby points were wonderful to paint. I loved doing Billy and Millie. I kept their fur warm in colour and set them against a lilac backdrop that compliments their coats. I wanted to give this painting a feeling of warmth and affection. This is a 20×16 acrylic painting on canvas.

The star of the show is Millie with those lovely blue eyes! Here’s a close up of Millie.

South East Open Studios 2010

June 17th, 2010

Our annual open studio event is underway in Lingfield. As usual it’s been very busy, lots of people have been to visit us. This year as well as Lois and myself we have a jeweller, Helen Morris-Clarke, who has her beautiful jewellery on show in the gallery alongside the paintings. Follow the link to take a look at this years show, as well as photos of the animals who had plenty of visitors themselves.

On Saturday we had a Pimms afternoon. It was a lovely sunny day and we had some wonderful food to go with our Pimms. People came all through the afternoon and into the evening to look at the gallery, have a Pimms and enjoy chatting in the sunshine in the garden.

We are open again this week until Sunday.

High Speed Gardening

June 15th, 2010

Here is my latest painting. A Springer Spaniel running around the garden with half a tree in her mouth. It certainly didn’t slow her down any!

I wanted to get the feel of a hot, sunny day into the painting. I used lots of warm colour, even in the shadows, and some thick paint in places too.
This is a 16×12 acrylic painting on board.

Wool Gatherer

May 19th, 2010

One of the black Hebridean sheep from the Ashdown forest flock. This is an oil painting on board. It took ages to get it right and I very nearly abandoned it. But all of a sudden it seemed to come together.

Wool Gatherer

I’m glad it did because these eyes are quite something.

Picnic In the Grass

May 17th, 2010

Four pretty girls sitting in the long grass for a bite to eat, watching the world go by. I really like these girls, they have lovely faces and great expressions. This is a small oil painting, a 10×8 oil. I hope to do a larger painting of them soon.

The Flock On the Move

May 12th, 2010

Here’s one of the large Ashdown Forest paintings framed. I’m very pleased with these frames, they look wonderful. This is the flock of Hebridean sheep moving through the forest heath.

Here’s a close up of the canvas…

The Flock Heading Home

May 11th, 2010

This is another painting for the Ashdown Forest show. The sheep are heading home in the evening light. This is a small 10×8 oil on board. Not sure of a title yet.
