Princess In The Grass

May 27th, 2011

A sunny day and Princess couldn’t resist a roll in the grass. She had a lot of fun rolling in the daisies and disturbing the butterflies. I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity of a great pose either!

 Princess in the grass

She’s a cat with very yellow eyes and a pink nose so she looks like one of the flowers herself!

This is a 10×8 inch oil on board. I’ll be showing this one at the Untitled Artists show in June in Chelsea.

Red Zebra

April 21st, 2011

Here’s the little zebra painting I’ve been working on. I wanted to capture his profile against a red background and have some fun with colour on those amazing black and white stripes. So I’ve used reds, purples, blues and greens in his black stripes. It makes him glow against the background.

I loved painting him so much I’m going to start another zebra painting today. Maybe a bigger one for the show I’m doing in June.

Blue Cow

April 18th, 2011

Cows have great expressions and this black and white cow was staring over a hedge, watching the world go by. I’ve got a thing for black and white animals at the moment and I couldn’t resist painting her. I also loved the blues of the sky and her coat against the the oranges and pinks of her muzzle.

Painting Lola Part 2

February 24th, 2011

This is the finished painting of Lola. She is a 20×16 inch oil on canvas. She is such a pretty dog I loved painting her and I think I want to do another painting of her soon. There is something very appealing about English Bull Terriers! ♥

Lola - Oil On Canvas - English Bull Terrier

20×16 inch oil on box canvas
£640

I am donating Lola to Battersea Cats and Dogs Home to raise money for the work they do helping cats and dogs find new loving homes. So she will be for sale and 100% of the sale price will go to Battersea. A very worthy cause!

This is a close up of the canvas…

Lola Detail

You can see many different colours are used in her eyes.

She is painted on a deep box canvas and I’ve painted the edges of the canvas so the painting can hang unframed.

Painting Lola

February 14th, 2011

This is Lola, a pretty English Bull Terrier. I asked for models recently on my facebook page and Sarah volunteered the lovely Lola. Isn’t she adorable? She was perfect for an idea I had in mind. I want to paint black and white models on a red background. So I’m going to paint Lola on a large 20×16 inch canvas with a red ground.

I also thought I’d try an take photos all the way through the process so you can see the growth of the painting.

This is the sketch on the canvas.

Here is the under painting. I’m using transparent red iron oxide for the under painting. Its a lovely rich warm colour.

Mitzy and Smudge

December 17th, 2010

One of the Christmas commissions, this is Mitzy and Smudge relaxing on pink and burgundy cushions. Lots of fabulous colour in the painting, the delicious pinks and reds in the background and blues, greens and reds in their fur too.

Mitzy and Smudge

It was hard to get a good photo of this painting, it’s so dark outside and of course the flash bounces off the paint!

This is a 16×12 inch acrylic painting on paper.

Princess Upside Down

January 7th, 2009

This is Princess lying upside down in her favourite chair. Enjoying a spot of heat bathing!

Frank

January 4th, 2009

Another of the Christmas commissions is Frank. I rather fell for Frank as I was painting him. He looks to be quite a character. He was also a lot of fun to paint as he’s sitting partly in sun and partly in shade and the colours in his fur change with the light.
