Well the excitement of black cat awareness day is over and there were some amazing photos posted on cats protections facebook page! It really has inspired me to look for some more black cat models and do some more paintings.

Cats protection selected a gallery of their favourite photos, you can see them here. And I chose one of those 10 pictures to win the prize painting, Molly by Stephanie Stanesby.
During Black Cat Awareness Day, on October the 27th, Cats Protection are asking cat lovers to share photos of their black cats on their flickr site, facebook page or their flickr page or tweet mentioning @CatsProtection and #CPBlackCats . They will select some of their favourite photos and create a gallery of them.
The Prize
I am going to select a winner from the gallery and paint a 10×8 inch portrait of the winning cat! :-)
So if you fancy a portrait of your beautiful black puss upload your photo to http://www.facebook.com/catsprotection and tell people how wonderful our black cats are and maybe you could win a painting of your cat.
Why
Black Cat Awareness Day from Cats Protection aims to help around 1,300 unwanted black cats who are being overlooked by potential owners. Black cats make up one fifth of the total number of cats being looked after by Cats Protection, and each black cat is waiting a week longer to find a home compared to the average cat.
To adopt a black cat, please log on to www.cats.org.uk for details of your local Cats Protection branch or centre.
To see some of my paintings of black cats including my rescue boy Harry take a look at the Fascinating Felines Gallery.
On Thursday 27 October, Cats Protection will be holding a Black Cat Awareness Day. They say….
It seems that black cats get over looked when people are choosing cats! How sad is that? Cats Protection say that around 20 per cent of cats in their care are black cats and, for whatever reason, often take longer to find new homes while their would-be adopters plump for torties, tabbies and gingers.
Cats Protection will be running a social media campaign on that day, but need our help to make it a success. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter – to keep in touch with what they’re doing.

I certainly will, our most recent cat is a black cat and a rescue. The fabulous Harry. Huge, soppy and a great cuddle. I can highly recommend black cats! :-)
Harry is really becoming a muse! Here he is crammed into a box. What is it with cats and boxes? They certainly have a thing for them and it seems, the smaller the better. A good box should be a tight fit or it’s not comfortable.

Harry likes the boxes my printer paper comes in. Sadly my paper is still in it! But I thought I’d paint him rather than turf him out as he just looked so good. I loved the paw just peaking over the edge. :-)
This painting is available, just follow the link or email me if you’d like it. It is a 10×8 inch oil painting on board of Harry in his favourite squashed box!
Here’s a close up of the painting.

This is Harry, one of my favourite models. And he just loves this pose, draped over the furniture with those amazing eyes watching the world go by.
Here’s a close up
And here he is framed.
10×8 inch oil painting on board. SOLD
New this year is The Painted Cat 2011 Wall Calendar! Now you can get your feline fix all through the year with 12 different cats to add colour and feline fun to each month. The calendar is A4, 8 x 11 inches in size. There are 12 pages, 1 page per month, each featuring one of my cat paintings, as well as a cover and a back. It’s wire bound so it’s easy to hang on the wall and change the pages.

The paintings included are Hot Spot, Sugar Plum Fairies, Java, Mother’s Day, In The Pink, The Fishpond, Alice, Sunbathing, Doing The Washing Up, Favourite Toy, Lunchtime and The Carol Singers.
You can see all the pages in more detail, just visit me on flickr and have a look at the calendar’s flickr album.
Buy a 2011 Wall Calendar in the shop. Both UK and USA versions are available.
A new card called The Carol Singers. Three cats, a Siamese, a black cat and a tabby are carol singing on a snowy Christmas night. They are singing ‘We Three Kings’ of course, what else? Obviously the Siamese is the lead singer! ;-)

Find it in The Painted Cat’s shop…
It’s taken me a few days but I’ve finally got the photos from Bromley sorted out and up op on flickr! Here they are….
Or view the slide show.
Cats, Dogs and Other Animals is on at The Ripley Arts Centre until the 28th of August.
A new Christmas card this year is ‘Waiting For Santa’. Harry is sitting on the snowy rooftops of London watching for Santa to bring him what he wants for Christmas.
I wonder what he’ll wish for this year. Last year he was living rough, an abandoned cat trying to survive in the snow. He wished for a warm home and people to love him. Well, he got his wish, we rescued him. This year, when he sits in the snow and looks up at the stars, he knows he can come in whenever he wants too and curl up by the fire.
I have two new prints, Golden Eyes and In The Window, a black cat, Harry, sunbathing on a chair, and a ginger boy, Rudolf, sitting in the window enjoying the sun.

These are the paintings that’ll be In The Society Of Feline Artists Show.
This is a small oil painting of Harry sitting on the chair enjoying the sun. I haven’t thought of a proper title for it yet. I loved the way the colours reflected in his coat, he’s so shiny! And his yellow eyes really catch the sun.

Here’s a close up.

The painting is about 12×8 inches and I’ve put it in a beautiful ivory coloured frame. I love it in this frame.

He’ll go into the Society Of Feline Artists show I think. If I can bear to part with him!
