Photos of the hang and of the private view can seen on the SOFA blog. There’s a slideshow with plenty of photos so you can get a good look around the show. Almost as good as being there.

Yorkie

June 23rd, 2011

Here’s a small painting of a Yorkshire terrier on the beach. Although it a close up I loved the way the soft colour of the beach are reflected in his coat, the blues and lilacs and the sandy golds.

This is an 8×8 inch oil painting on board. Want to buy him?

Win a portrait of your Bullmastiff!

Creating art to help bullmastiffs in need

Is your dog a handsome pup? Good looking dogs or natural comedians, I’m looking for models to inspire some new Bullmastiff art.

Boston BrahminAs some of you know, I donate work each year to the American Bullmastiff Association art auction to help raise much needed funds for bullmastiffs. I want to do a new piece for this years auction and I thought it’d be fun to have a photo competition to find new models.

Prizes
A 10×8 portrait of your dog for yourself and the warm, fuzzy feeling of making a contribution to the important work of the ABA. I will create 2 pieces of art from the winning photo, one for the winner and one to be sold in the ABA art auction. All proceeds of the auction go to the ABA.

Photos
They can be any kind of photos, funny, sweet, or just plain good looking, as long as they are Bullmastiffs.

They must be YOUR photos of YOUR dog! This is important folks, you must be the owner of the copyright of the images you enter, so please don’t enter photos other people have taken.

What to do if you are on facebook

Go to The Painted Dog page on facebook and click the like button.
Look for the photo contest button on the left hand side and click it.
Enter your photos of your dog.
Vote for your favourites.
Share the link and ask your friends to vote too.
The most popular picture will win the prize but also, I hope, raise the most money for ABA at the auction. That’s the important bit!

What to do if you are NOT on facebook

Email me your photos at den@thepaintedcat.co.uk
include your name and location and of course your dogs name and title of the photo if any. I will add them to the album so people can vote on them.

The Rules

The Dogs
They must be photos of your dogs. They must be Bullmastiffs. It all raises money for ABA. You can submit as many photos as you like.

Copyright
You must be the photographer! This is important folks, you must be the owner of the copyright of the images you enter, so please don’t enter photos other people have taken. Your submission of the photo and entry form is your guarantee that you are the author and copyright holder of the photo.

Ownership/Use Rights
By entering the contest, you are giving me, Denise Laurent, permission to use your photos to create works of art.

Judging
Vote for your favourite photos. Tell your friends and get them to vote too. The most popular photo will win.

Inappropriate Content
This is all about the dogs. Obscene, provocative or otherwise questionable content will be removed.

Winners
The winners will be notified by email within one week of the winner announcement date, using the email address provided on the entry form. No financial compensation will be provided to winners.

Snowflake

May 3rd, 2011

This little white pony is Snowflake. He is a lively character, full of mischief and a sense of fun. I wanted to try and capture the sweetness of his profile against a soft green backdrop with lots of very soft colour in his mane.

Upside Down

April 26th, 2011

Todays painting is a tortoiseshell cat rolling on the floor. Torties have such pretty coats, so full of colour and great for a painter. She is perfect for thick, juice strokes of oil paint!

Yellow Ball

April 20th, 2011

Todays painting is a blue Staffordshire bull terrier dog with his yellow ball. He had a lot of fun chasing this ball around and half the time he was too fast for my poor old camera! But luckily he finally tired out and sat down with his toy for a well earned break.

Blue staffy with a yellow ball

I loved the contrast of the green and yellow against the blues and lilacs in his coat. This is an 8×8 inch oil painting on board. Here’s a close up.

He has lovely eyes! :-)

A lovely Staffy face

April 17th, 2011

This handsome Staffordshire bull terrier dog was sitting outside the supermarket waiting for his master to come out with the shopping. No doubt hoping for a treat! I thought he was very handsome and I loved his profile so I thought I’d try and capture him in paint.

Anyone Home?

April 14th, 2011

I have just finished this painting of a curious hen. This girl is quite a character, always to be found in the thick of the action and with an endless curiosity about whatever the humans are doing! Always on the look out for something nice to eat or somewhere interesting to perch.

Dali

April 4th, 2011

This is Dali and pug dog. I liked the expression on his face as he lays in his basket, keeping an eye out for extra treats! And what huge eyes he has!

Dali - pug dog

This is a 10×8 acrylic painting on board. He is sold.

I painted Dali on a rough surface made with Golden’s mineral fibre paste on board. It’s the first time I tried a painting on this surface and it was really interesting. It’s similar to paper, absorbent and textured. You can see it in the close up detail.

French Bulldog

This is the first small painting I’ve been able to do. It’s a 5×7 inch acrylic on board. I have been trying to do some smaller works recently. It’s a good to stretch yourself now and then! Most of them are 10×8 but I thought I’d try a smaller size and see how it went. So I was amazed when this little painting turned out so well!

I even have a little frame for her.

Tigua

Tigua and his friend the duck. Hot summer days are meant for chilling out with friends, even if they are garden ornaments. :-)

This is a 16×12 acrylic on canvas and it’s sold.

Harry

March 18th, 2011

This is Harry, one of my favourite models. And he just loves this pose, draped over the furniture with those amazing eyes watching the world go by.
