Art That Touches and Heals

Imagine a world where art isn’t just a beautiful image, but a powerful tool for healing.

A woman who had recently lost her cat saw my work and she commissioned me to create a painting for her of her cat. She sent me lots of photos and we talked about what she was like, her cheeky personality and how long they had lived together. I created a painting for her and tried to capture the spirit of her beautiful fur baby. When the piece was finished and framed she was really pleased with it.

Several years later I met her again at an art exhibition. She told me that my art had really helped her to find peace and joy again. Every time she looked at the painting it brought her happy memories. The colours, she said, warmed her heart, while the cat’s mischievous expression reminded her of the playful spirit she so dearly missed. “It’s like having a little piece of her with me again.” I was truly humbled and grateful that she shared her experience with me.

It taught me the incredible power of art to heal. Whether it’s a portrait of a loved one, a meaningful landscape, or something that inspires a childhood memory, even an abstract piece filled with vibrant colours can bring us joy and help us heal. The art we hang on our walls can be a powerful source of comfort and inspiration. Inspired by her story I donated some of my canvas prints to my local hospital, hoping they would brighten the day of patients and staff alike.
